Politburo Shuffles the Central Committee

Politburo, Reassigning Duties of Central Committee Secretaries. April 3, 1935

 

From Protocol #32 of the meeting of the Politburo of the CC VKP(b).

No. 54. RE: Assigning duties and responsibilities to secretaries of the CC.

a) Comrade A.A. Andreev is to be brought into the Orgbiuro of the CC.

b) Comrade Andreev is given responsibility for presiding over sessions of the Orgbiuro, while Comrades Andreev and Ezhov are to be given responsibility for setting the Orgbiuro agenda.

c) Comrade Andreev is given responsibility for managing the industrial department of the CC and for monitoring the work of the transport section and the administrative department of the CC of VKP(b).

d) Comrade Ezhov is to be relieved of his duties as manager of the industrial department and given responsibility for the management of the Department of Leading Party Organs.

e)Comrade Stalin is given responsibility for monitoring the work of the remaining sections of the CC, especially the Department of Culture and Propaganda.

f) Comrade Kaganovich is given responsibility for monitoring the work of the Moscow Regional and City Party Organizations, provided that this work does not interfere with his work for the People’s Commissariat for Transport and Communications (NKPS).

g) Comrade Kaganovich is to be permitted to deal with the regional and territorial committees as a secretary in the CC in seeking their help and support in matters pertaining to rail transport whenever the situation calls for it.
