Zelma Photographs Stalingrad
Georgii Zel’ma was born in Tashkent in 1906, and came of age photographing Soviet Moscow in the 1920s. He is perhaps best known for his photos taken in the midst of the struggle for Stalingrad as staff photographer for Izvestiia.
Life in the City during Battle
Iakov Riumkin stayed in Stalingrad during the bitter winter of 1942-43, photographing Soviet citizens as they tried to stay alive amidst the fighting.
