Godzilla (1954)
Description: If fear of a nuclear holocaust was surreptitious in the Soviet Union and monopolized by the state, in the West it was open, loud and commodified. The film industry was quick to capitalize on nuclear fears by creating special-effect movies featuring mutant monsters that come back to, quite literally, bite their creators. On movie in particular emerged from the pack: Godzilla (1954), appropriately the product of a Japanese film industry rebuilding after the war. Its ancient dinosaur released from sub-surface safety by underwater hydrogen bomb testing spoke to easy disasters that nuclear experimentation threatened.
