Description: Soviet authorities unsuccessfully resisted young listeners’ attempts to import western popular music, foiled by the ingenuity of rock and jazz fans. This newsreel film from 1960 chronicles one the earliest and most ingenious methods of black-market distribution, which used discarded x-ray plates for the records. The creation of Soviet tape equipment made underground recording much simpler and more common.
