Confrontation in the Parliament (August 23, 1991)

Gorbachev and Eltsin
Description: Gripping sounds as Boris Eltsin and Mikhail Gorbachev debate the fate of the Communist Party in the Russian Parliament. Eltsin first congratulated Russian legislators on the ‘victory over the reactionary forces,’ and then announced that all participants in the coup had been arrested and would face trial. Gorbachev followed with this evaluation of recent events. Eltisin would soon ban the Communist Party in the Russian Federation, effectively depriving the party of its power.
