Bialowieza Forest (1976)

Pesniary. Music: Aleksandra Pakhmutova. Lyrics: Nikolai Dobronravov
Description: This ancient woodland straddling the border between Belarus and Poland is one of the last and largest remains of the immense primeval forest covering Europe. It is home to a variety of unique species, mostly famously the wisest, or bison. Bialowieza has survived numerous catastrophic invasions, including WWI occupation by German soldiers who hunted the wildlife freely, and later, Herman Goering’s plans to turn it into the biggest hunting reserve in the world.
