Kino-Week №1

Dziga Vertov. Kino-Week №1 1918

Description: On May 1, 1918, with the Red Army barely two months old, Soviet Russia held its first military parade. Some 30,000 troops marched at Khodynka Field on the outskirts of Moscow, reviewed by Trotsky and Lenin. Filmed by Dziga Vertov for Kino-Nedelya No. 1 — the first Soviet newsreel — this footage captures a regime announcing itself through spectacle, inaugurating the revolutionary calendar of holidays the Bolsheviks were determined to create.
