The morning after the replay, Krasnyi sport sent A. Vit to file a workmanlike match report. Three weeks earlier, the same paper had complained that Spartak bunkered in to defend a disputed lead. Now the Glazkov hat trick is justly won, Usov's penalty is "correctly given," and the review commission — almost in passing — finds the refereeing "excellent."

As has already been reported, the semifinal match of the USSR Cup between Moscow's Spartak and Tbilisi's Dinamo was found to have been played incorrectly. Yesterday, at Moscow's Dinamo Stadium, in the presence of 80,000 spectators, the replay took place. Despite Spartak's playing in a weakened lineup, without its captain Andrei Starostin and one of its best forwards, Al. Sokolov, the team once again proved its superiority. The Tbilisi side fielded their strongest lineup, played with spirit, and at moments in the course of the game had some advantage, but they could do nothing against Spartak's selfless defense, in which Malinin — replacing Starostin at center-half — stood out particularly. Spartak's attack, led by Stepanov, played combinatively and more dangerously than the Tbilisi forward line.
From the very outset, threatening moments are created at both goals. Finally, in the 16th minute, after a Protasov–Stepanov–Glazkov combination, the last-named, with a precise shot into the lower corner, scores the first ball into the Dinamo net. The Tbilisi side press forward and are often guests inside the Muscovites' penalty area; they take corners, create several dangerous situations, but with no result. From time to time the Spartakovtsy seize the initiative; Stepanov, playing well and intelligently, organizes attacks. In the 25th minute, a series of quick passes follows, and Glazkov, with an irrefutable shot under the post, doubles the score.
The Tbilisi Dinamo, however, once again demonstrated extraordinary qualities of will, undimmed energy, and the resolve to win. In the 34th minute, at the moment when the Spartak defense, supporting the attack, had drawn up toward the center, a sharp pass sent Paichadze through on a breakaway. Malinin, who had been covering him, found himself behind, and Paichadze, after going some thirty meters, lobbed the ball over the onrushing Akimov. With the score at 2–1 in Spartak's favor, the first half ends. At the start of the second half, the swift Kornilov shot out from the left flank into the inside-right position and, taking the ball, managed to round the onrushing Dorokhov, but Dorokhov seized the Muscovite by the legs and brought him down. The referee Usov, who handled this difficult match very precisely, correctly awarded a penalty, and Glazkov unerringly scored the third goal.
Toward the end of the half, the play becomes less interesting, as Spartak — following its favored, though far from always correct, tactic — drops back into defense. The Tbilisi side attack furiously, but only by the 41st minute did their attacks meet with success: after a corner taken with no particular need by Malinin, Berezhnoi in a goalmouth scramble pulls one back. Akimov takes a knock, and for the closing minutes Zhmel'kov plays in his place, though the load on him was not great.
Spartak convincingly demonstrated its superiority, finishing this interesting match 3–2 in its own favor.
The refereeing of Comrade Usov was — as, incidentally, the review commission also noted — excellent. And so: Spartak is the holder of the USSR football Cup of 1939.
