These three films trace how Soviet Belarus staged its wartime past. A 1973 school documentary presents Minsk as a rebuilt, orderly capital. A newsreel of its Hero-City award shows Party chief Pyotr Masherau, a former partisan commander, leading the procession as a genuinely popular wartime figure. A decade later, Come and See (1985) confronted the terror behind Khatyn’s commemorative calm.
