Come and See!

Come and See / Иди и смотри (1985)

Description: Released in 1985, this film by Elem Klimov follows a Belarusian village boy who joins the partisans and witnesses the annihilation of his community. Drawing on documented Nazi atrocities in Belarus, it abandons heroic myth for psychological devastation, becoming one of the starkest cinematic reckonings with wartime occupation. In this scene, the Belarusian village is still relatively untouched by war in 1943. Sixteen-year-old Fleura goes off to join the partisans, parting forever with his pre-war family and life.

Director: Elem Klimov. Screenplay: Ales Adamovich and Elem Klimov. Based on: Documentary and literary materials by Ales Adamovich. Starring: Aleksei Kravchenko (Fleura)
