Brezhnev Visits the White House
Description: Leonid Brezhnev arrived in Washington D.C. on June 18, 1973 for a week of talks with President Richard Nixon, the high-water mark of early détente. The camera followed the choreography: the airport welcome, handshakes with Pat Nixon, honor guards, flags, and the slow motorcade to the White House. Beneath the ceremony lay negotiations on arms control and “normal” relations between two superpowers.
