Village Dances
Through the 1950s, Soviet painters celebrated the village dance as a wholesome scene of collective life — accordions, folk costume, the open air. By the 1980s, the same subject had quietly transformed: electric guitars and tape recorders had followed rock music into the countryside, displacing the traditional repertoire that once defined those gatherings.
