Vasilii Shukshin: Snowball Berry Red (1974)
Egor Prokudin, recently released from prison, is plowing a field on a tractor when his old criminal gang arrives in a black Volga. They shoot him at the edge of a birch grove. Shukshin directed, wrote, and played the role. He died the following year, on the set of his next film.
