Leisure Time and its Danger (1981)
Description: By 1981 the materialism of Soviet youth had become visible enough that the official cultural apparatus felt compelled to address it. Healthy leisure activities of young people, including sports, organized recreation, and productive labor, are contrasted with unhealthy alternatives focused on consumer goods, fashion, and Western-influenced pastimes. That such a documentary needed to be produced is itself evidence that the underground economy supplying these goods had become large enough to require an official ideological response.
