Warwaw Pact Dissolves Video
These four videos trace the Pact's end from the soldiers on the ground to the signatures that closed the alliance. Two clips capture the Soviet pullout from Czechoslovakia in early 1990, the occupation begun in 1968 finally reversed: rare ITN footage of the first Red Army contingents departing, paired with a Havel-led rally in Prague, and a Soviet broadcast nawrrating the same withdrawal for audiences at home. An AP report follows the parallel exit from Hungary, where nearly fifty thousand troops began heading home. The last clip moves to the Prague conference of July 1, 1991, where Vremya covered the formal dissolution.
