Soviet Troops Begin Hungarian Pull-Out. March 12, 1990
The first of 49,700 Soviet troops stationed in Hungary prepared to head home March 12, two days after Moscow and Budapest signed an agreement on the total withdrawal of Red Army soldiers by mid-1991. Hungary was the secondd Warsaw Pact country to negotiate a full Soviet withdrawal from its territory.
